COVID-19 Response

On March 15, 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to cancel all group activities at the LBA but caseworkers strived on and provided essential services to our clients. We kept in touch with clients by providing Zoom audio support groups and life skills education regarding the coronavirus along with guidelines issued by the CDC to keep them safe and healthy. Our Radio Reading Service continued to broadcast during these unprecedented times to assist blind and visually impaired individuals keep in touch with the news and help reduce isolation especially for individuals living alone.
Effective July 1, 2020, the Governor of Pennsylvania moved Lackawanna County to the green phase allowing us to open our group activities with the following changes to comply with all CDC and Pennsylvania guidelines in order to keep all clients and staff safe & healthy:
  • Professional cleaning service sanitized and disinfected Agency prior to resuming activities.
  • Life Enrichment activities limited to 10 clients per activity.
  • Sensory development – five clients per class.
  • Masks must be worn and 6- feet social distancing.
  • Temperatures taken daily for staff and clients.
  • Staff and clients instructed to wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Disinfecting and sanitizing all tables, chairs, door handles before and after all activities at the Agency.
  • Disinfecting and sanitizing of minibus and staff’s vehicles before and after client activity or appointment.
  • Prevention of Blindness children screenings is limited due to closings/virtual classrooms.
Hopefully, we can continue providing our small group activities during this pandemic. If a client or staff member tests positive for COVID-19 and attended our activity, we will cancel all activities at the Agency and caseworkers will continue to provide support remotely from home according to CDC guidelines.
